Sant Pau Research wins CAATEEB’s Catalonia Construction Award

The Medical Research Institute of the Hospital de Sant Pau – IIB Sant Pau has been awarded this year’s Catalonia Construction Prize, in the category of innovation in construction, at the 17th edition of the Catalonia Construction Awards organised by the Barcelona Association of Quantity Surveyors (CAATEEB).

The award in the category of innovation in construction, from the Research Institute, was won by the candidacy of Felip Pich-Aguilera Baurier and Carles Gelpí i Arroyo.

The jury valued very positively “the innovations introduced in the project with changes in the functional programme that lead to greater efficiency in the work of the research technicians through the opening up of shared work spaces and systems”. It also praised “the way in which a certain symbiosis was approached with the heritage environment of the Hospital de Sant Pau through an original treatment of the industrialised ceramic fabric, as well as the innovation it presents in terms of materials and construction elements”.

The construction of the new research building has been financed by the Fundació Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau with a contribution of 12 million euros, and has received a grant of 5 million euros from European ERDF funds, managed by the Secretariat of Universities and Research of the Department of Enterprise and Knowledge of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
