About the Unit / Service

The Animal Experimentation Service is responsible for the maintenance and care of laboratory animals, the performance of experimental procedures involving animals, and the processing of the samples obtained.

The Service holds ISO 9001:2015 certification and ensures compliance with the legal and ethical regulations governing the use of animals for experimental and other scientific purposes. It is officially registered as a breeding, supplying and user establishment for laboratory animals (B9900067 and REGA ES080190036528) and is also authorised to house and work with Genetically Modified Organisms (A/ES/08/21 and A/ES/08/I-14).

The Service staff are officially trained and qualified to perform the relevant functions, including animal care, the design and performance of procedures and projects, in situ supervision of animal welfare and care, and designated veterinary duties.

Translational research requires the responsible use of laboratory animals and the reproducibility of results. The use of animals of high genetic and health quality, together with appropriate housing, maintenance and welfare conditions, is essential to achieve these results.

Essential requirements

Minimum qualification required: Intermediate Vocational Training qualification (Intermediate Vocational Training Programme/FPI) or equivalent.
Oral and written knowledge of both official languages of Catalonia or, failing this, the selected candidate must demonstrate, or commit to acquiring within a maximum period of one year, an adequate command of both official languages of Catalonia.
Intermediate proficiency in office software tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Desirable qualifications

Accreditation for function (a) for personnel handling animals used for experimental purposes.
Knowledge of cleaning and disinfection techniques for work areas and equipment with different levels of biological containment.

Responsibilities

Cleaning, disinfection and decontamination of the Animal Experimentation Service facilities and equipment in accordance with established protocols.
Tasks related to the preparation of work clothing, materials and consumables used within the Service, including bedding, cages, drinking bottles, etc. (use of autoclaves and washing machines).
Supporting the supervision of animal welfare.
Cleaning animal housing equipment (cages, grids, drinking bottles, racks, etc.).
Any other tasks related to the care, cleaning and handling of housed animals and the facility.
Afternoon shift.

We offer

Permanent contract
Annual working time of 1,627.50 hours (37.5 hours/week).
Salary according to the applicable collective agreement.
Appointment within the Animal Experimentation Service.
