About the Unit / Research Group

The Cellular Immunotherapy and Gene Therapy Research Group (GITG) focuses on the study of genetically modified T cells expressing antigen-specific chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) and their clinical application in patients with haematological malignancies.

The GITG group at IR Sant Pau is a well-established group and a pioneer in the development and production of CAR-T cells for the treatment of patients with haematological malignancies.

The group has developed a pioneering European clinical trial using HSP-CAR30 cells for patients with Hodgkin lymphoma and a second clinical trial in patients with refractory B-cell lymphomas using memory CAR-T19 cells. The HSP-CAR30 and HSP-CAR19M products are manufactured entirely at Sant Pau by the GITG group in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice standards.

The current research lines of the Cellular Immunotherapy and Gene Therapy Research Group (Haematology) focus on the following aspects of CAR-T immunotherapy:

Investigation of the antitumour efficacy of memory T-cell subtypes.
Study of the antitumour efficacy of genetically modified CAR-expressing stem cell memory T cells.
Development of innovative new 4th-generation CARs targeting antigens expressed in haematological malignancies.
Development of CAR-T cell immunotherapy clinical trials in patients with lymphoid malignancies.

Essential requirements

University degree: PhD in Health Sciences or a related field.
Experience in cell culture, molecular biology, cellular analysis of blood samples and flow cytometry.
Experience with animal models (rodents) and appropriate accreditation to conduct in vivo studies.
Strong collaborative and communication skills.
High level of motivation and interest.

Desirable qualifications

Previous experience in the fields of immunology and/or haemato-oncology.
Experience in CAR-T cell therapy.
Knowledge of English.

Responsibilities

Development of research projects to evaluate the antitumour efficacy of 4th-generation CAR-T cells in haematological cancer models.
Design and performance of in vitro and in vivo experiments to assess the antitumour efficacy of 4th-generation CAR-T cells in haematological cancer models.
Data analysis and interpretation.
Presentation of data at national and international meetings.

We offer

Open-ended contract linked to the CAR-T cell therapy project.
Project awarded under the Resolution of the Directorate of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, O.A., M.P., granting funding for Independent Clinical Research Projects under the 2025 Strategic Action in Health – Strategic Health Research Lines call.
The contract is funded by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, grant code ICI25/0065, and co-funded by the European Union – ERDF.
Annual working time of 1,627.50 hours (37.5 hours/week).
Salary according to the applicable collective agreement.
Appointment within the Cellular Immunotherapy and Gene Therapy Research Group (Haematology).
