Main lines of research
- Off-pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
- Mitral valve repair surgery.
- Aortic pathology: aortic root surgery and aortic arch surgery using hybrid techniques.
- Follow-up of sutureless aortic valve prostheses: Perceval S.
- Follow-up of surgical checklist implementation.
- Risk scores.
- Cardiac protection using Del Nido cardioplegia.
- Minimally invasive techniques: mini-sternotomy, mini-thoracotomy, and MIDCABG surgery.
- Total arterial graft revascularization.
- New transcatheter valvular prostheses: transaxillary TAVI approach (Portico) and transapical TAVI approach (Accurate).
- Aortic valve repair.
Challenges
- To consolidate the group as a research team in different fields related to cardiac surgery, especially sutureless valve prostheses, use of the radial artery in myocardial revascularization, and different TAVI approaches.
- To participate in the assessment and validation of new products used in cardiac surgery, such as hemostatic agents and sutures.
- To collaborate with different national and international research teams involved in the group’s lines of research, including studies on epicardial fat (Endocrinology) and calcium channels in atrial myocytes (ICCV).
