About the Unit / Research Group

The International Projects Unit at the Sant Pau Research Institute supports researchers throughout the entire lifecycle of competitive international research projects, from identifying funding opportunities to the management and reporting of awarded grants.

Main areas of activity:

  • Identification of international funding opportunities and dissemination of competitive calls.
  • Advice, review and support in the preparation and submission of research proposals.
  • Administrative, technical and financial management of awarded projects.
  • Cost validation, preparation of financial reports and grant justifications.
  • Management of project-related issues and liaison with funding bodies.
  • Coordination with researchers and the Institution's cross-functional departments.
  • Preparation of institutional reports and support for internal and external audits.

Essential requirements

  • Higher education degree (Bachelor's degree, Diploma or equivalent) relevant to the position. A degree in Health Sciences or Technology will be considered an asset.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the management of research projects funded by international organisations (e.g. H2020, Horizon Europe, EU4Health, NIH or similar).
  • Advanced proficiency in office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent).
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.

Desirable qualifications

  • Experience with the European Commission Framework Programmes (FP7, Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe) and other international funding programmes (NIH, EU4Health, Erasmus+, among others) in the health field.
  • Additional training related to the management of competitive international research projects.
  • Proven experience in a research environment.
  • Dynamic and proactive profile with demonstrated experience working in multidisciplinary teams and international research consortia.
  • Experience organising training sessions, workshops, networking events and other engagement activities.
  • Experience using advanced project and grant management tools.
  • Experience supporting the full Horizon Europe proposal development process, including call identification, partner search, consortium building, proposal coordination and contribution to both technical and administrative sections.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and planning abilities.
  • Oral and written proficiency in the two official languages of Catalonia. A Catalan language certificate (Level C) will be considered an asset. Alternatively, the selected candidate must demonstrate, or commit to acquiring, an appropriate command of both official languages of Catalonia within one year.

Main responsibilities

  • Support the preparation and submission of competitive European and international research proposals, including proposal writing, budget preparation and compliance with call requirements.
  • Provide support throughout the entire Horizon Europe and international proposal development process: identifying suitable funding opportunities, searching for partners, building competitive consortia, analysing call requirements, coordinating proposal preparation and contributing to both technical and administrative sections.
  • Organise and promote Unit activities, including training sessions, workshops, networking events, information days and masterclasses.
  • Maintain communication with researchers and funding agencies.
  • Support the negotiation, drafting, review and signature of consortium and grant agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and funding body regulations.
  • Maintain and update project and grant databases.
  • Monitor project implementation, ensuring compliance with the work plan, milestones and deliverables, manage project budgets, prepare financial reports and audits, and anticipate potential deviations during project execution.
  • Perform any other duties related to the position that contribute to the proper functioning of the Institution.
