R1B- Investigador/a Predoctoral PREP 2024 MICIU

Barcelona Ref. 2026/071

Deadline: May 29th, 2026, 3:00 pm

About the Unit / Group

The group focuses its research on the establishment of epigenomic and epitranscriptomic maps of normal and transformed cells, the study of interactions between epigenetic modifications and non-coding RNAs, and the development of new epigenetic drugs for cancer treatment.

The research plan for the coming years will expand and innovate upon the group’s main previous contributions in the fields of Epigenetics and Epitranscriptomics, at both the basic and translational levels. It will address organ, tissue, and cell identity and how these characteristics become deregulated in disease, with a primary focus on cancer. Main Research Lines

  • Study of the “language” of chemical modifications in DNA and histones (Epigenetics) and in RNA (Epitranscriptomics).
  • Resolution of multi-omic heterogeneity through single-cell and spatial biology approaches.
  • Elucidation of the interaction between RNA modifications and carcinogenesis.
  • Identification of therapeutic vulnerabilities in cancer for the development of epigenetic and epitranscriptomic drugs.

Essential requirements

  • Minimum qualification required: Higher Education Degree (Bachelor’s Degree) and a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences or a related discipline.
  • Enrollment and admission to a PhD programme.
  • Oral and written knowledge of the two official languages of Catalonia or, failing that, the selected candidate must demonstrate or commit to acquiring an adequate level of both official languages within a period not exceeding one year.
  • Intermediate level of English.
  • Intermediate level of office software tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Skills will be valued
  • Strong interest and motivation to develop a research career in the biomedical field.
  • Organized, proactive, autonomous, and enthusiastic individual.
  • Excellent academic record.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive attitude, creativity, and collaborative spirit.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to variable workloads.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Functions

  • Participate in the bioinformatic characterization of cell types and molecular pathways from tumor samples and normal tissues using single-cell and spatial omics technologies.
  • Contribute to epigenomic analyses, including DNA methylation (WGBS/EPIC), CUT&Tag, RNA-seq, and ATAC-seq, and collaborate in data processing with the support of senior team members.
  • Perform bioinformatic analyses, multi-omic data integration (including spatial biology approaches), and organization of project datasets.
  • Prepare figures, reports, and presentations, and participate in internal meetings, collaborations with clinicians, and dissemination activities Offered
  • Predoctoral contract within a multinational and highly collaborative team. Linked to grant PREP2024-002764, funded by MICIU/AEI /10.13039/501100011033 and by ESF+
  • Annual workday of 1.627,50 hours (37,5 hours/week)
  • Salary according to funding
  • Cancer Epigenetics Research Group Documentation and deadline for submission Interested parties should preferably deliver the documentation (1) in PDF, by e-mail to the Management of the Santa Creu i Sant Pau Hospital Research Institute Foundation, address seleccio@recercasantpau.cat , indicating the reference 2026/071: (1) Application letter and updated Curriculum Vitae and signed Data Processing Authorization** At the request of the Santa Creu i Sant Pau Hospital Research Institute Foundation, the candidates must present the documentation accrediting the merits mentioned in the curriculum vitae.
