The DataHealth Lab, led by Dr. Otavio Ranzani, focuses on generating high-quality science with an impact on public health policies through the advanced use of data. Its core pillars are epidemiology, data science, and implementation science. Its focus is on acute systemic stressors of individuals and health systems, addressing urgent challenges from climate change and respiratory and emerging infections.

Main Lines of Research

  • Effects of environmental pollutants and extreme temperatures on health, with an emphasis on the mechanisms of acute exposures.
  • Epidemiology of post-infectious syndromes and evaluation of vaccine effectiveness.
  • The impact of respiratory infections and antimicrobial resistance on health systems.
  • Innovation in critical care through clinical trials, telemedicine, and artificial intelligence.

Scientific Challenges

  • Generate methodologically rigorous and socially relevant evidence.
  • Strengthen the group’s national and international positioning.
  • Enhance collaboration with other research groups at IR Sant Pau.
  • Promote open, inclusive, and sustainable science.
