Call for applications for one T4A – Junior Higher Technician position within the Neurobiology of Dementias Group – Multilingual Aphasia & Dementia Research Lab. Application deadline: 11 August 2026, 3:00 p.m.

 

About the Unit / Research Group

This multidisciplinary team comprises more than 60 researchers, including neurologists, neuropsychologists, speech and language therapists, biologists, biochemists, engineers and laboratory technicians. It is a highly translational team that combines basic research with clinical research in humans to advance the understanding of neurodegenerative diseases.

The group has an outstanding track record in scientific publications and the acquisition of competitive research funding. It also provides continuous training to residents, master's students, and predoctoral and postdoctoral researchers from both national and international institutions.

The group offers an excellent environment for the training of early-career researchers within a unique translational research setting.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum qualification: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy (Logopaedics), or a Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Oral and written proficiency in both official languages of Catalonia. If the selected candidate does not meet this requirement, they must demonstrate or commit to acquiring an adequate command of both languages within a maximum period of one year.
  • Advanced level of English.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Essential requirement: Hold a current employment relationship with the Research Institute of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Availability to work afternoon shifts.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Previous experience coordinating research and/or clinical activities.
  • Experience in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of aphasia.
  • Experience working with participants affected by neurodegenerative diseases, particularly primary progressive aphasia.
  • Postgraduate training in neurological speech and language therapy.
  • Interest in research and in pursuing a PhD in the future.
  • Experience using research data collection software, particularly REDCap, and statistical software, particularly R.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will participate in the group's clinical and research activities within a multicentre study. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Conducting cognitive and language assessments and providing speech and language therapy in Catalan and Spanish to participants with neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Coordinating and managing research projects in Catalan and Spanish under the supervision of the site's Principal Investigators and in collaboration with the participating research teams.

Research Coordination and Support

  • Assist in the development of research protocols and methodologies.
  • Support participant recruitment and visit scheduling.
  • Deliver study materials to the collaborating site in Barcelona (Hospital Clínic de Barcelona).
  • Collect, organise and maintain research data and study documentation.
  • Conduct literature reviews and assist with data analysis.
  • Prepare research reports, scientific presentations and publications.
  • Support the preparation and submission of competitive research grant applications.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory requirements governing research activities.
  • Provide administrative support for research activities, including budget management.

Technical Supervision and Coordination

  • Supervise and train newly appointed staff, research fellows and students in the cognitive and linguistic assessment procedures used in the study.
  • Coordinate and harmonise assessment administration and scoring criteria across participating centres through inter-rater calibration sessions, ensuring data reliability in a multicentre study.
  • Act as the technical reference person for collaborating centres, providing methodological guidance regarding participant assessment.

Adaptation and Development of Assessment Tools

  • Adapt and validate neuropsychological and language assessment batteries for use in Spanish and Catalan, ensuring linguistic and cultural appropriateness.
  • Develop or adapt assessment tools and speech and language therapy materials specifically designed for participants with neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and procedural manuals for assessment and, where applicable, speech and language intervention.

Participant and Family Support

  • Provide information and guidance to participants and their families regarding communication and language difficulties associated with neurodegenerative diseases within the framework of the study.
  • Prepare or review participant information sheets and informed consent documents, adapting the language to the comprehension level of individuals with cognitive and language impairments.

  • Permanent employment contract.
  • Annual working schedule of 1,627.5 hours (37.5 hours per week).
