Urban Health Inequalities

Main lines of research

  • To continue studying the social and political determinants of health and their effects on construction and policy interventions. A special focus on COVID-19 inequalities and in its consequences.
  • Evaluation the environmental and potential health benefits of policies aimed at reducing air and noise pollution such the superblocks or Urban Environmental Protection Zones.
  • Evaluation of road safety policies and interventions, such effectiveness on road safety of superblocks (Superilles), effectiveness of safe school streets, impact on road safety of the promotion of bicycle use in Barcelona.
  • To continue to make progress with the study of mechanisms and mediators between residential insecurity, energy poverty and health and the evaluation of housing policies, such the impact on health of cooperative housing in cession of use in Catalonia.
  • Gender inequalities in health: Inequalities in sexual and reproductive health. Interventions to reduce health inequalities and the mechanisms that influence these policies in the provision of health services.

We can point out that the governance of our group’s research is strongly imbricated in our organization (Barcelona Public Health Agency) since it is a research totally linked to the practice of public health. The results of our research is key to making progress in monitoring health inequalities and implementing policies to reduce them.
