18:00 h New Seminar at CC Navas: The brain of the autistic spectrum – Dra. Maria J Portella

On Tuesday, March 21 at 6 p.m., Dr. Maria J Portella, Head of the Research Group on Psychiatric Disorders, Sant Pau Biomedical Research Institute (IIB-Sant Pau) will give a talk at the Navas Civic Center on the brain of the autistic spectrum.
During this talk we will talk about the physiological differences between an autistic brain and that of a neurotypical person. And how their different neurodevelopment leads to alterations in neuronal pruning, in myelination and therefore in functioning.
The autistic brain is a more branched, less specialized brain and has to process a lot of information to give an understandable response to the environment. In plain words, it is not so automatic a brain. This means that people with autism have problems in executive functions, such as making decisions, planning tasks, distinguishing what is a priority, etc.
She will also talk about the different types of intervention that exist and make proposals for strategies to carry out at home, from her point of view as a neuroscientist and mother of a child with autism.

Address: Ptge. Torent, 1, 08027 Barcelona

Time: 18:00 h – 19:00 h
